SPACEIO // LINUX Command of the Day #4
chmod 600: decide who can read your files
Who can read your files? On Linux, that's a setting.
chmod 600 file
What it does
chmod changes permissions. 600 means only the owner can read and write. 755 lets everyone read and run a file, but only the owner can change it.
Why it matters
A private key that anyone on the system can read is a security problem. SSH will even refuse to use a key with loose permissions.
Try it
Run ls -l on a file in your home folder. What are its permissions? Share what you found in the community.
