Nmap: see what a network is showing the world
You can't secure what you can't see.
nmap -sV scanme.nmap.org
What it does
Nmap scans a machine or network and reports which ports are open and which services are running. Add -sV to also detect service versions.
Why it matters
Defenders use it to find forgotten open ports. Attackers use it for the same reason. That's why you learn it.
Use it legally
Only scan systems you own or have written permission to test. scanme.nmap.org is provided by the Nmap project for practice.
